| Microdermabrasion
Microdermabrasion is the term for the application of tiny rough grains to buff away the surface layer of skin. It is commonly performed to improve the look of facial skin left scarred by surgery or accidents, or to smooth out fine facial wrinkles, such as those around the mouth. It is also sometimes used to minimize deep acne scars. Microdermabrasion helps to "refinish" the skin's top layers through a method of controlled surgical scraping. The treatment softens the sharp edges of surface irregularities, giving the skin a smoother appearance. |

Microdermabrasion is effective in reducing fine lines, "crow's feet," age spots, and acne scars. It speeds the skin's renewal by stimulating the production of skin cells and collagen. Microdermabrasion can be performed on small areas of skin or on the entire face. It is sometimes performed with other procedures such as facelift, scar removal or revision, or chemical peel.
As illustrated in the photo above, a hand piece emits extremely tiny crystals onto the surface of the skin, resulting in a gentle scraping or "polishing" process. Treatments last from 30 minutes to an hour. The number of treatments recommended for best results can range between 5 and 12, spaced from two to three weeks apart.
